Cogshall Park is a favorite, but Fitchburg is also close to many great hiking spots including Trapt Falls (a tri-waterfall), Wachusett Mountain, and the Rock Walk (The history of the Fitchburg Boulder which was moved by exploding it and put back together at the bottom of the hill in Downtown Fitchburg.)

There is plenty of shopping around Fitchburg. Not to mention the convenience of several box stores, there is also the Whitney Field Mall, Jeffrey’s Co-Op (Antique store housing over 150 vendors), RC Excitement (race controlled race car hobby shop), comic book shops, and more.
